Pregnancy and Japanese Hair Straightening/Thermal Reconditioning/TR

During the pregnancy and two-three months following the termination of pregnancy, colors do not last. TR and permanent hair straightening do not take well and may have early reversion. This may be due to changes in relationship between the high-sulfur and low-sulfur proteins. The early reversion is more so a thioglycolate hair straightening issue. Sodium hydroxide straightening system is considered reversion resistant.

Typically, pregnant women's hormones fluctuate quite a bit during pregnancy and don't normalize until after nursing is completed. No doctor or manufacturer has any scientific evidence on how this affects the body or the fetus. My advice is against trying to chemically straighten/TR the hair until after nursing. Besides, TR is a minutely processing service, and there aren’t many breaks in between. If the client is going to have it done; consider the smell, and the long time steady sitting. Post-partum alopecia: Normally the hair sheds quite a bit after birth and sometimes after nursing. Generally, the hair does not shed as much during the pregnancy, therefore getting a little thicker. Afterwards, the hair returns to its normal thickness, basically shedding off all the hair that didn't get shed in 9 + months.

Post-partum alopecia is a temporary type of hair loss often noted within two to three months after termination of a pregnancy. It can last from three months to a year, averaging about six months. The hair loss will be more noticeable in some women than in others. Some women have noted that the amount of loss and duration of the loss differed with each pregnancy. This loss is temporary. If you straighten/TR your hair, and then you start shedding a lot of hair, I would at this point think that it is natural shedding due to hormone balancing. These are only general observation, and there are many exceptions.
